Ben Reymenants

Technical Diving Instructor Trainer & Cave Explorer

TDI, RAID, SSI and PADI

In late June 2018, the whole world was enthralled by the story of the 12 teenage soccer players and their coach trapped inside a cave in Chang Rai, Thailand.

Ben Reymenants, a Belgian who owns a technical dive centre, Blue Label Diving, in Phuket, was called in to help the search mission. Helping to lay the groundwork for the rescue, Ben was worked tirelessly with Thai officials and the rescue team right to the end.

Here in person, Ben will share with us his story on the rescue, his passion for diving and the important lessons learnt.

Claus Rasmussen

Technical Diving Instructor

Claus Rasmussen has been living and working within the Asian dive industry since the early 2000’s. He holds Instructor Trainer ratings with SSI and DDI, is a PADI Master Instructor and is also a technical instructor with TDI, SSI and PADI. Currently, he’s one of the instructors at Blue Label Diving in Phuket, Thailand.

In June 2018, Claus was received a request that would put his skills to the ultimate test. Asked to assist in the rescue mission of the team of Thai soccer boys and their coach trapped in a cave in Chiang Rai, Claus will be sharing his story and what cave diving is all about.

Gordos Mateo R. Gojunco

SSI Instructor Trainer 

Growing up doing a lot of outdoor sports like mountain climbing, dragon boating, and working as an EMT, lifeguard, and a firefighter, it was only natural that Gordos got into scuba diving. After obtaining his Open Water Course qualification, the rest was history.

Now as an SSI instructor and trainer and being the lead instructor for Scuba Academy Manila, Gordos specialises in ‘Leadership and Professional Development’ courses, ‘Technical Extended Range’ dives and ‘Wreck and Cave Exploration’. An active member of the Philippine Technical Divers and Underwater Contractors, as well as Filipino Cave Divers. He spends most of his time underwater. On land, his time is mostly spent on teaching academics about diving or talking to people about diving, and taking care of his wife Toni (a Master Scuba Diver and future Dive Profesional Dax).

Christian Heylen

Training Manager and President of IANTD Indo-Pacific

Co-author of the IANTD TAO of Cave Diving, Christian has been a passionate cave diver for more than 20 years. Exploring cave systems from Florida and Mexico to Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, he was also the first diver to discover, explore and map, with the help of his rebreather, many of the unique deep fracture cave systems in Egypt. Christian is now mainly involved in the training of technical and rebreather cave instructors as well as the development of new advanced cave diving techniques and safety procedures.

Bruce Konefe

Cave/ Shipwreck Explorer

A pioneer technical cave and deep wreck diver and side mount and rebreather Instructor, Bruce is a trainer with 21+ years of experience planning and organizing the most ambitious technical diving expeditions throughout Asia. Apart from planning and organizing expeditions, Bruce also has 5 years’ experience as an Instructor Trainer Director.
